College & Career
Readiness
Why College & Career Readiness Matters:
(Based on Measure of America research)
-
Preparing members for successful lives in the workforce is one of the best ways to ensure that members escape poverty and violence, in addition to providing a safe place in a critical time in teen’s lives.
-
“The period of young adulthood is critical to developing the capabilities required for a full and flourishing life:
-
knowledge and credentials
-
social skills and networks
-
a sense of mastery and agency
-
an understanding of one's strengths and preferences
-
the ability to handle stressful events and regulate one's emotions”
-
-
Disconnected youth are individuals age 16–24 who are not in school or employed. Youth disconnection stunts human development, thus closes off some of life's rewarding paths and leads to a future of limitation and unrealized potential
